Brief: NetSuite bolsters its ERP offering

New NetSuite features include special order enhancements, lot number tracking and advanced billing.

Hosted provider NetSuite Inc. is bolstering its ERP offerings with several new back-office features for wholesalers, distributors and service-based companies.

The San Mateo, Calif.-based company is adding features for product-based companies that will also benefit from its CRM offering, NetSuite president and CEO Zach Nelson said. An "available to promise" feature will allow salespeople to see not only whether a product is in stock, but also whether it's been sold.

NetSuite's new system also includes special order features and lot tracking, including component lot tracking, Nelson said. For example, if there were a problem with a batch coating on a particular pill, users would be able to track down any pills necessary for recall.

For service-based companies, new features include advanced billing that can show line-item expenses over time and a revenue recognition functionality to help with compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

General enhancements include multi-currency support; accounts payable and sales tax payments via electronic funds transfer; cost allocation; and a budgeting feature that allows tracking of budgets under multiple scenarios.

NetSuite's product lines are NetCRM, NetERP, NetSuite and Oracle Small Business Suite.

The enhancements are due for release this summer, and pricing will be announced at that time.
