Pivotal attempts to resurrect itself; SAS goes mining for data and Data Junction gets the call. These are a few of the week's CRM-related announcements.

Pivotal gets on the comeback trail with Q2 results

CRM software vendor Pivotal Corp., Vancouver, recently announced earnings that indicated comeback plans within the company may be gaining traction. The firm delivered a Q2 loss of $7.4 million for the period compared to a loss of $11.9 million one year ago. Pivotal appointed a new executive team and implemented cost cutting structures in mid-2001.

"We feel good that the recovery has started for us," said CEO Bo Manning. "I don't think we're going to get it all back in one quarter, but we're aiming for consistent growth. This is a first step."


SAS releases text mining software

Cary, N.C.-based business intelligence software maker SAS Institute introduced SAS Text Miner, a product aimed at adding advanced text mining functionality to the company's suite of data mining tools. The company said the application allows users to enrich the data mining process by integrating unstructured textual data with existing structured data. Compaq Computer Corp. is among the companies already using the software.

Data Junction lands telecommunications industry customer

Austin, Texas-based Data Junction Corp. reported that telephone cooperative Horry Telephone Inc. will aggregate customer data from two disparate systems into its Operator Services Platform. The company said that Horry will migrate customer data from telephone and billing systems, allowing operators to process calls with up-to-date client information.

Syntellect partners with Motorola

Phoenix-based supply chain software and services provider Syntellect Inc. said it has reached an agreement to license VoiceXML Browser source code version 2.0 from Motorola for incorporation within its Vista Interactive Media Response application. The Vista IMR product offers phone-based access to data, applications and transactions within an enterprise. Callers typically request information through natural language voice commands and can receive the information via their choice of voice, fax, email, wireless or the Web.

Syntellect lands Identix deal

San Francisco-based eCRM vendor reported that fingerprint authenticity software maker Identix Inc. will utilize its online CRM offering going forward. Identix said it would use the product to manage interest in its security products. Identix said it has already built a repository of information using the platform, leading to an improved ability to measure and contain marketing expenditures and work for new business with existing customers.
