Sage spices up CRM with BI buy

The U.K.-based company that acquired Best and ACCPAC in recent years, has now added a BI vendor as well.

The Sage Group plc, in London, continues to expand its IT holdings.

A business management software vendor, Sage has purchased business intelligence and corporate performance management software vendor IntelligentApps Ltd. of London. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Almost a year ago, Sage bought ACCPAC International, to complement its 2001 purchase of Best Software and its SalesLogix application.

Sage and IntelligentApps have teamed up for the past year on a product called Sage BI for midmarket customers. The acquisition will provide Sage with a BI product that allows customers to access data over the Web in an Excel or Web browser interface.

"The acquisition of IntelligentApps is a further step in Sage's strategy to provide our customers with key technologies and specialized software that integrates to their existing Sage accounting and CRM software," Gavin May, business development director for Sage, said in a release. "At Sage, we view business intelligence as fundamentally important to customers at all levels, and this acquisition is one of the cornerstones of our strategy to offer a complete business management software solution to our existing and new customers."

IntelligentApps' ability to extract data from accounting, CRM and other systems and to provide dashboards to business users will deliver "business intelligence to the masses," Gavin said.
