Connecting SAP CRM and a non-SAP system using SAP Java Connector

One SearchCRM.com reader asks, "How we can connect a non-SAP system with SAP CRM?" Learn Srini Katta's advice in this tip.

We are preparing for an SAP CRM 5.0 implementation (not portal based). Currently, there is one non-SAP system and one R/3 MSD system in the landscape. In both systems, the database is built with Oracle. Connecting with SAP R/3 is not a problem, but how we can connect the non-SAP system with SAP CRM? We only want some fields of the non-SAP system to be displayed in SAP CRM as a report.

Is SAP Java Connector (JCo) a good option or is there a better way of doing this?

I'm guessing you may be running SAP BW system for analytics. Why not move the data from non-SAP system into SAP BW to get the necessary reporting on those fields, as SAP CRM is dependent on SAP BW for analytics?

SAP Java Connector (JCo) is also a viable option. I'd have to have all of the details about your requirements in order to make a recommendation.
